Reasons to try the Ketogenic Diet (KD)
Making A Difference
There are many reasons, not to mention evidence, to consider trying the Ketogenic Diet. Researchers Tan-Shalaby & Seyfried (2013) performed a pilot study on cancer patients in the Veterans Affair (VA) Healthcare system found that the ketogenic diet is safe and a good option for people with cancer. In addition, there is no insurance is needed to be on this diet and it has been shown to have positive effects in this population!
Schmidt, et al (2011) found in their research that the KD was beneficial even to those with advanced Cancer demonstrating an improvement in blood tests and a better Quality of Life.
Why does it work? Cancer cells rely heavily on sugar, glucose. The Ketogenic diet is kind of like putting the body in starvation mode decreasing glucose levels in the body. The healthy cells however can use ketones for energy. This may cause the tumor to stop growing and possibly decrease tumor size or growth and prevent the tumor from spreading to other parts of the body (metastases) (Tan-Shalaby,2017).
Interesting in 1987 (Tisdale et al.) it was found in mice that implementing the KD actually prevented cachexia, also know as muscle wasting and weight loss!
More research is needed although there is not much monetary incentive to perform research. If you have cancer or know someone going through Cancer treatment please get information on possible clinical trials.

One of the important things to remember when changing your diet is changing the way you look at it. Instead of feeding your body you are fueling your body. Your not being asked to stop eating all the 'good foods' just change what you think are 'good foods'. Dr. Bruce Lipton believes that "the moment you change your perception, is the moment you rewrite the chemistry of your body" (Quotemaster.org)
