Biological Terrain
Cancer starts with one cell that is changed in our body due to many different factors. Lots of times they work together to help the cancer grow. These factors are located inside our body such as: Blood, gut, hormones, immune system, even in our genes! Outside the body our cells can be changed by the environment we live and work in every day.
One of the most looked at factors is that of inflammation. This is called Cancer's "Fiery Side" by Keith Block in his book Life Over Cancer (2009). Inflammation heats up cancer enabling it to spread, be more aggressive! It occurs in almost any condition that ends in -itis. Arthitis, fasciitis, colitis, etc... It is very important if you have any of these conditions that they are treated. How can you tell if your medication or supplements are working to control your inflammation? The answer is to get tested.
Nutrigenomics
There is a plethora of evidence pointing to the impact dietary habits can have on the risk of developing. What you put into your body, the food you eat can determine how your genes act and can change the pathway of cancer.
Why is it important? With all the interest in genes since the Human Genome Project in 2003, we may be able to identify what eating behaviors may "lessen the cancer burden" (Nicastro, et al., 2012).
